Benefits of Yoga

Multi culture yoga

With a new year upon us, many of us are looking to find new ways to work on our health and wellness. Yoga offers multiple physical and mental health benefits for all age groups and activity levels. It has also been known to help alleviate symptoms of many ailments whether it is recovering from an illness or living with a chronic condition. Below are some of the many benefits associated with participating in yoga regularly:

  1. Stress relief: between the physical practice alongside meditation and breath work, yoga has been known to alleviate stress which in turn enables us to sleep better

  2. Flexibility: as we age, reduced flexibility can result in injury. Yoga offers many styles to choose from that vary in intensity based on personal preference to help increase strength, balance and flexibility.

  3. Reduce inflammation: many studies have been shown to reduce the markers of inflammation across various chronic conditions. GI symptoms, arthritis, heart disease, back pain and diabetes are among some of these conditions.

  4. Mental health: with everything going on in our world today, anxiety and depression have been on the rise. Between the physical movement and meditation piece, yoga has been known to help in reducing the symptoms of anxiety.

  5. Improved posture and body awareness: with remote work becoming so popular these days, many of us are spending more time than ever sitting at a desk with improper posture. Yoga’s focus on mobility and flexibility can contribute to better alignment by reducing stiff muscles and strengthening the core.

Spend some time investing in YOU and your health this year. Yoga is a great way to strengthen your physical and mental well-being and is a way to invest in some alone time or grab a friend and join a class! Whichever method you prefer, yoga will surely bring some positive benefits to your life.
