Maia Smith is a Registered Dietitian in Connecticut who specializes in eating disorder recovery and HAES-aligned nutrition counseling. She is passionate about helping people improve their relationship with food in safe, supportive ways. Maia joins the Karuna team from Monte Nido Walden in Middletown, CT, where she provided nutrition counseling to adults in PHP and IOP levels of care. Her role there included meal planning, food exposures, group education, and individualized counseling using trauma-informed and evidence-based strategies. Maia is committed to providing compassionate, personalized care that honors each client’s lived experience.
She uses tools such as Family-Based Treatment (FBT), motivational interviewing, and CBT/DBT-informed skills to guide clients toward meaningful nutrition goals. She also collaborates closely with interdisciplinary care teams to provide consistent, integrated support.
While at the University of Connecticut, Maia was involved in the SHAPE peer education program, where she promoted body positivity and raised awareness about eating disorders on campus.
Outside of work, Maia enjoys discovering new food spots, spending time outdoors, and staying active in her Connecticut community.
